About Paradise Vocab
What is this?
Paradise Vocab is a comprehensive learning companion for John Milton's epic poem Paradise Lost (1667). It provides:
- 263 vocabulary words with definitions, etymology, and difficulty ratings
- 78 literary references to biblical and classical sources
- Anki-style flashcards with spaced repetition for effective memorization
- Context from the poem showing where each word or reference appears
How to Use
Library: Browse, search, and filter all vocabulary and references. Use the checkboxes to show one or both types. Click any item to see its full details and every occurrence in the poem.
Flashcards: The spaced repetition system (SM-2 algorithm, same as Anki) schedules your reviews optimally. Cards you know well appear less frequently; difficult cards appear more often. Progress is saved in your browser.
The SM-2 Algorithm
When reviewing flashcards, rate your recall:
- Again: Completely forgot - card resets
- Hard: Remembered with difficulty - shorter interval
- Good: Correct with some effort - normal interval
- Easy: Instant recall - longer interval
